fairechild Book Report | Volume 33 | Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth

Name of Book: Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth

Year Published: 2017

Words and Pictures by: Oliver Jeffers

What is the main topic of the book?:

The newest book by our favorite picture book Illustrator, Oliver Jeffers, does not disappoint. In fact, it’s one of our favorites yet. He embarked upon this book after the arrival of his firstborn, Harland, and the book serves as an introductory guide to Earth for his little son. From pointing out exactly where Earth is found in space to explaining the very basics like ‘On our planet, there are people. One people is a person. You are a person. You have a body. Look after it, as most bit don’t grow back.” Our two year old LOVES reading through this book and pointing out Earth, the fish in the sea and (every.time.) pointing at the baboons bare bum and laughing like it’s the best thing he’s ever seen in his entire life.

Strengths:

Visually interesting, you’ll notice something new each time you read this book and it really appeals to both parents and kid alike. You can swap out Jeffers advice for your own, if you like (although his is pretty good). What is your favorite Oliver Jeffers book? There are SO many good ones!

Rating: 10/10!
