Size + Design
What size is best for my child?
fairechild garments are designed to grow with your child. Each size spans three conventional sizes and fits true to the largest number shown. For example, a size 4–6 should still fit comfortably at age six, while the adjustable design allows it to be made smaller for younger children.
Because every child grows differently, we recommend using your child’s measurements rather than age alone.
How are the garments adjustable?
Our outerwear is designed for years of wear. Coat sleeves and pant legs include up to 10 cm of foldable cuffing. Our children’s Rain Pants also feature adjustable suspenders and waistband snaps, allowing the fit to change as your child grows.
Can fairechild outerwear be worn year-round?
Yes. Our outerwear is lightweight, waterproof, breathable and intentionally roomy for layering.
Wear it over everyday clothing in warmer weather. During colder months, add a moisture-wicking base layer and an insulating layer such as wool, fleece or down. Choose soft, flexible layers that allow your child to move freely.
Materials
Is fairechild outerwear fully waterproof?
Yes. Our fabric has a 20,000 mm waterproof rating and is tested using a rain tower to simulate intense rainfall. Our garments also have fully sealed seams to prevent water from entering through the construction.
For lasting performance, machine wash as directed and tumble dry on low. Gentle heat helps reactivate the fabric’s water-repellent finish.
Is the fabric breathable?
Yes. Our fabric has a breathability rating of 10,000 g/m²/24h. The Sympatex membrane moves moisture away from the body, helping children stay comfortable while running, climbing and playing.
What is the fabric made from?
Our three-layer performance fabric is made using recycled polyester and a recyclable Sympatex membrane.
- A soft inner layer that manages moisture
- A waterproof and breathable membrane
- A durable outer layer made for active play
The result is lightweight protection without the heavy, plastic feeling of conventional rainwear.
Is the fabric PFAS-free?
Yes. Our Sympatex fabric is intentionally made without PFAS or PTFE. It delivers lasting waterproof performance without relying on fluorinated membrane technology.
How are fairechild products more environmentally responsible?
We choose recycled materials wherever possible and design every garment for a long useful life.
Our materials include recycled polyester fabric, recycled thread, recycled webbing and recycled brass hardware. Some components, including elastic, reflective transfers, seam tape and adhesive, are made from new materials.
Most importantly, our garments are designed to be worn for years, repaired when needed and passed from one child to the next.
What about microplastics?
Like other synthetic textiles, recycled polyester may release some microfibres during washing. Our tightly woven, three-layer bonded fabric is less prone to shedding than loosely constructed materials such as fleece, but it may still release fibres over time.
To help capture microfibres, wash only when needed and consider using a filter bag such as GUPPYFRIEND.
Care Guide
How do I wash my fairechild outerwear?
MACHINE WASH. TUMBLE DRY. WEAR AGAIN.
Machine wash at or below 40°C, then tumble dry on low. Tumble drying is recommended because gentle heat helps reactivate the fabric’s water-repellent finish.
- Wash with similar colours
- Tumble dry on low
- Do not bleach
- Do not dry clean
- Iron on low if needed, avoiding reflective details
Can I use stain remover?
Yes. Apply the stain remover according to its instructions, then gently work it into the affected area using a soft cloth or the fabric itself. Machine wash at or below 40°C and tumble dry on low.
How do I repair a hole?
Our fabric is durable, but it is not rip-proof. Small holes and tears can be repaired using a fairechild Patch Kit, helping extend the life of your garment.
Can the water-repellent finish be restored?
Yes. If water stops beading on the surface, wash the garment according to the care instructions and tumble dry on low. Gentle heat helps reactivate the water-repellent finish.
If needed, iron on low below 110°C, avoiding all reflective details.
Orders
Where can I find fairechild in person?
We do not currently operate a fairechild retail store, but selected retailers carry our garments.
We recommend contacting the retailer before visiting to confirm that your preferred style, colour and size are available.
When will my preorder ship?
We produce our garments in small batches to reduce overproduction. The expected shipping date for each preorder is listed on the individual product page. Once your order ships, you’ll receive tracking information by email.
When will an item be restocked?
Select your preferred size and use the restock notification option on the product page, if available.
