Our children’s outerwear is designed to last, as we offer sizes that span up to three years: 1-2, 2-4, 4-6, 6-8, 8-10 and 10-12. The sizing is true to the larger number and the garments are adjustable, so you can easily make them smaller. Every child is different though, so a child’s age doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a particular size.
This sizing guide will help you choose the perfect fit!
Quality outerwear is an investment, so it should grow with you and last as long as possible. The coat sleeves all have cuffs that fold up to 10cm, before you can see the lining. The children’s pants also have 10cm of cuffing, adjustable suspenders and snaps on the waistband, so the garments can accommodate around three years of growth.
Our mission is to help families connect with nature, so fairechild products are lightweight, waterproof and durable. When it’s warm, our breathable outerwear offers sun protection and the tightly woven fabric repels insects. We also design the garments to be roomy, so you can easily add under layers, when it’s cold. Merino wool is a great option, as it breathes and wicks moisture. For a vegan alternative, consider high quality polyester.
In the winter, we suggest a base layer and an insulator like fleece or down. You don’t want to restrict movement, so avoid stiff fabrics, anything tight and choose materials that won’t absorb moisture. Heat escapes faster from your extremities, so wear something thick under our Mittens, plus a hat, scarf and layered socks.

We test our products thoroughly to ensure they're fully waterproof, using a rain tower to simulate intense rainfall like a monsoon. The waterproof membrane has a water column of 20,000 mm, which is the amount of water it can endure, before there's a potential leak. That's at least 2-3 hours of rain. For extra protection, all of our products also have taped seams to stop water from getting through.
After about twenty washes, the fabric will start to relax and become less waterproof, if you air dry. Not to worry though, as heat reactivates and strengthens the waterproof coating. You can safely put our garments in the dryer and ironing is also fine, though ensure it’s a low setting (under 110 degrees Celsius) and avoid the reflective transfers.
We work with innovative German textile manufacturers to create high-performance fabric called Sympatex that’s made with 100% recycled plastic bottles. The manufacturing process is also more ecological, using 60% less energy and 94% less water, compared to oil-based polymers.
The plastic is spun into yarn and woven to create a fabric called polyether-ester that contains no harmful chemicals, it’s fully waterproof and breathable, allowing for moisture to evaporate for ultimate comfort. Our unique three-layer textile is also recyclable, so fairechild products are endlessly reusable.

We’re committed to having a low environmental impact, so we use recycled materials and sustainable production methods. The fabric is made of 100% recycled plastic bottles, with a manufacturing process that uses 60% less energy and 94% less water, compared to oil-based polymers.
The hardware is made with recycled brass, the thread is recycled plastic and so is the webbing. There’s also an eco-friendly coating on the brass snaps to stop tarnishing and the material for the suspenders is Eco-Tech certified. The elastic, reflective transfers, seam tape and glue are newly made.
We’re also proud to have three environmental certifications. Bluesign is a sustainability standard that approves the entire lifecycle of our products, guaranteeing the highest level of safety for consumers. The Oeko-Tex standard is higher than government regulations, ensuring the garments are free of harmful chemicals. Finally, the GRS is a voluntary international product standard that verifies our use of recycled materials.
Our fabric is made from 100% recycled plastic and because of this, it’s possible that some microplastic may leach out in the wash. That being said, because our fabric is a tight weave and it’s a three-layer bonded textile, this is significantly reduced, compared to a material like fleece.
We recommend that you purchase a washing bag that’s specifically designed to catch microplastics, if you want to be 100% sure that there’s no ecological impact. We recommend the brand Guppyfriend.
fairechild adds a layer of ease to parenting, as all of our garments are machine washable. Use water under 40 degrees Celsius and we recommend the dryer on a low setting to reactivate the waterproof coating. You can also iron on a low setting (less than 110 degrees Celsius), but avoid the reflective transfers. fairechild products should not be bleached or dry cleaned.
You can also safely use stain removal products on our fabric, using a soft cloth or the fabric itself to scrub. For the best results, after you've treated the garment according to the products instructions, machine wash on a gentle cycle in warm water.
All of our products are exceptionally durable and long lasting, but our fabric is not rip-proof. If a hole forms in one of our garments, we offer a Patch Kit for purchase, so you can continue to enjoy your outerwear.
After about twenty washes, the fabric will start to relax and become less waterproof, if you air dry. Not to worry though, as heat reactivates and strengthens the waterproof coating. You can safely put our garments in the dryer and ironing is also okay, though ensure it’s a low setting (under 110 degrees Celsius) and avoid the reflective transfers.
